Engagement

Engagement reflects the University of Melbourne's mutually beneficial relationships with wider society. It is the third strand of the triple helix (which lies at the heart of our strategy), enriching both our teaching and our research.

We are committed to three levels of engagement:

  • Public value: A commitment to public value underpins our academic mission, shapes our operating practices, and guides our contributions to intellectual, cultural, social and economic life.
  • Engaged students: A University of Melbourne education prepares graduates for lives of professional contribution and leadership.
  • Engaged research: As a comprehensive, research-intensive and globally engaged university, the University of Melbourne shares advances that shape the world.

The University of Melbourne shares these aspirations with its broader community of alumni, supporters and friends.

Alumni and advancement

Our alumni are a particularly important part of how we engage, and we seek their input across a range of activities including course governance and mentoring current students.

Advancement provides crucial support for our researchers, students and infrastructure. We are tremendously thankful for our many donors' generosity.
