Dr Iain Ross AO was appointed to Council on 1 October 2026.
Iain is Chair of the Royal Commission into Artificial Intelligence, Chair of the Net Zero Economy Authority, a member of the Reserve Bank of Australia's Monetary Policy Board, and an elected Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia. His previous appointments include President of the Fair Work Commission, Judge of the Federal Court of Australia, Judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria, and President of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
Prior to his judicial appointments, Iain held a number of senior leadership roles in government and statutory authorities, including Vice President of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission, Chair of the Council of Australasian Tribunals, and Commissioner of the Victorian Law Reform Commission. He was also Assistant Secretary of the Australian Council of Trade Unions and a partner at Corrs Chambers Westgarth.
Iain was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2005 for service to industrial relations through contributions to institutional reform, particularly the development of universal superannuation and enterprise bargaining, and as a teacher and researcher in the field. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) by the University of Sydney in 2014.
