Joanne Ligouris

Executive Director, Student and Scholarly Services and Academic Registrar


The Executive Director, Student and Scholarly Services and Academic Registrar has oversight over student support services, programs and administration across the student lifecycle, from student recruitment through to enrolment, course progression and graduation.

In addition to wrap-around support for the student journey, the Student and Scholarly Services portfolio also manages University owned colleges and student accommodation and health and wellbeing services including sport, disability support, early childhood services and the Safer Community Program. Oversight of services that support the scholarly community more broadly such as libraries and scholarly collections, timetabling, centralised examinations, research administration and teaching and learning innovation also form part of the portfolio. The Office of the Academic Registrar manages student conduct and complaints, including escalated academic misconduct cases, fitness to study and student safety.

Joanne has more than 20 years of experience in senior leadership roles at the University of Melbourne, driving significant strategic and operational improvements and major student services initiatives with a strong focus on equity and access, and service excellence. Joanne has extensive experience leading complex, multi-service portfolios at scale through growth, innovation and change. She is a committed people leader with a track record of effectively aligning operations to deliver on institutional goals.

Joanne has held prior leadership roles at the University of Melbourne as the Faculty Executive Director, Faculty of Arts, the Executive Manager, Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and in other operations and research management roles. In her current role, Joanne continues to embed inclusive, student centred design and excellence in the services and systems to enable diverse learners to thrive.

Joanne holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Classical Civilization from Monash University and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Melbourne.
