The New Colombo Plan (NCP), a signature initiative of the Australian Government connecting Australian students to the Asia Pacific region, celebrated its 10-year anniversary at Melbourne Connect on Wednesday 19 June.

Since its inception in 2014, the NCP has provided opportunities for University of Melbourne students to undertake overseas programs, build institutional linkages, and develop lasting relationships and professional networks across the region.

Over 1,000 University of Melbourne students have been awarded an NCP grant since the program began, helping to support their study programs across Asia and the Pacific. Forty-three students have also been awarded the prestigious NCP Scholarship, supporting longer-term study, internship, and language programs in the region.

Jianqing (Ariel) Hao, a former NCP grant awardee, said of the program, "NCP enabled me to explore economics from a non-Western perspective, broadening my global outlook and understanding of China's dynamic economy. This transformative experience inspired me to pursue a career as an economist in international policy, dedicated to driving positive change in global development."
