Associate Professor Elif Ekinci has been awarded the 2021 Australian Diabetes Society’s Ranji and Amara Wikramanayake Clinical Diabetes Research Award. This award is given to support the career of a clinical diabetes researcher.

Associate Professor Ekinci is an academic endocrinologist who is working to translate research into improved outcomes for people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

She is the Weary Dunlop Medical Research Foundation Principal Research Fellow in Metabolic Medicine at The University of Melbourne, Department of Medicine, Austin Health. As the Head of Diabetes at Austin Health, she co-ordinates the clinical care of inpatients and outpatients with diabetes.

She heads diabetes and obesity clinical trials at CREDO-Centre for Centre for Research and Education in Diabetes and Obesity and has published over 160 publications in leading journals.

In 2020, Associate Professor Ekinci was awarded a Dame Kate Campbell Fellowship, which recognises and rewards outstanding research performance and demonstration of Faculty values.
