Professor Gordon Lynch awarded Scientist Communicator Prize
Professor Gordon Lynch, Director at the Centre for Muscle Research in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, has been awarded the Scientist Communicator Prize by Australian Science Communicators (ASC).
Professor Lynch received the award in recognition of his representation of the University of Melbourne on ABC Radio’s Overnights program, promoting the science of health and fitness to a national audience.
“I would like to thank the Australian Science Communicators for this special honour. It has been a great privilege to promote science to listeners across the country every week for the past 25 years.
“My thanks to the ABC’s Rod Quinn, who I worked with for 19 of my 25 years on Overnights, both as a presenter and producer, and in recent years, Michael Pavlich, Ashwin Segkar, and Stuart Creighton. Thanks to my former producer, Helen Richardson, who gave me my start on ABC Radio all those years ago”, Professor Lynch said.
Professor Lynch’s research encompasses muscle growth, adaptation and plasticity and understanding muscle wasting and weakness. The award was bestowed as part of the SciComm Awards ceremony at the 15th Australian Science Communicators National Conference in Brisbane.
The ASC is Australia’s peak body representing and connecting people passionate about science communication.
