Professor Patrick McGorry AO elected as Member of the Royal Irish Academy

The Royal Irish Academy has elected Professor Patrick McGorry AO as an Honorary Member in recognition of his extensive research, clinical, and advocacy work to improve mental health services for young people

Members of the Royal Irish Academy are elected based on their exceptional contributions to the sciences, humanities, social sciences, and to public service.

Professor McGorry’s work in the fields of early intervention and early psychosis has played an integral role in the development and evaluation of stigma-free, holistic and recovery-oriented models of care for young people and their families. He is currently Professor at the Centre for Youth Mental Health at the University of Melbourne and Executive Director of Orygen, where he is responsible for leading the implementation of the research institute’s strategic plan and managing service delivery.
