Winners of the 2024 Sustainability Awards announced

The 2024 Sustainability Awards have recognised five recipients from across the University for their contributions to advancing sustainability within the University community.

Held annually, the Sustainability Awards celebrate professional staff, academics and students who have made valuable contributions to sustainability across various disciplines.

2024 Winners:

Ruby Graovac, (Project Delivery Team in partnership with the School of Agriculture, Food, and Ecosystem Sciences) for establishing Australia’s first vineyard-integrated solar PV at the Dookie campus, advancing agrivoltaic solutions to support energy and food co-generation.

Associate Professor Cathy Oke (Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning) for advancing practices to enhance urban biodiversity and addressing common misconceptions in city environments with the Playbook for Urban Biodiversity.

Associate Professor Christhina Candido (Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning) for her project that provides real-time data to enhance sustainable building designs.

Joshua James Stagg, a Juris Doctor candidate, for his efforts in expanding free groceries and essentials to students while effectively reducing food waste and landfill impact.

Dr Sonia Chanchlani (Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences) for her leadership in integrating climate and health education, as well as fostering sustainable healthcare practices that have garnered her international recognition.

“The Sustainability Awards recognise the dedicated efforts of our students and staff across our campuses and reflect the University’s commitment to driving positive change.” said Colin Reiter, Director of Campus Management and leader of the team organising the awards.
