Winners of the 2025 Sustainability Awards announced
Seven recipients from across the University have been recognised at the 2025 Sustainability Awards in recognition of their outstanding contributions to advancing sustainability within the University community.
Presented annually, the Sustainability Awards celebrate professional staff, academics, and students who have made valuable contributions to sustainability innovations across various disciplines.
2025 Winners:
- Dr George Panas (Faculty of Business and Economics) for creating a simulation activity designed to help students understand how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in real-world supply chains.
- Prof. Marcia McKenzie (Faculty of Education) for building climate leadership within the University and globally, with research-informed resources through the MECCE Project.
- Dr Sonia Horvat and Dr Parvinder Sidhu (Faculty of Science, School of Chemistry) for reducing chemical waste and enhancing student engagement through the Undergraduate Chemistry Practical Subject Rejuvenation Project.
- Dr Adel Nadjaran Toosi (Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, School of Computing and Information Systems) for his leadership in developing sustainable technologies, with a focus on reducing the environmental impacts of Information Technology.
- Paul Sidon (Professional Staff, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology) for his leadership in embedding sustainable practices into workplace culture.
- Yifan Qin (Master of Biotechnology, Faculty of Science) for his work as Community Garden Supervisor, where he advanced sustainable food systems by teaching planting, composting, and worm farming.
“The Sustainability Awards celebrate the energy, creativity, and impact of our students, academics, and staff. It was fantastic to recognise and applaud the many stories of how our University community is working towards a more sustainable future,” said Ken Lynch, Director of Campus Operations and Delivery and leader of the Sustainability Delivery team, organisers of the Awards.
