Dr Sara Bice from the Melbourne School of Government has been awarded one of four inaugural Westpac Research Fellowships, contributing $330 000 towards her research activities.

The highly competitive Fellowship program is the first of its kind in Australia, which sees a partnership between Westpac and the Fellow’s respective University to provide financial support and career development for emerging researchers.

Dr Bice, chosen for her innovation, leadership, passion and commitment to her work, said this will advance her research into corporate social responsibility and sustainability.

“I am currently investigating the governance of Australian energy and water resources and developing policy solutions with sustainability in mind,” Dr Bice said.

University of Melbourne Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Capability) Julie Willis said this award recognised the success of School of Government research and the impact it makes on the wider community.

“We are tremendously pleased that Dr Sara Bice has been chosen for this award. This Fellowship will help facilitate world class research and give an early career researcher support to continue her work,” Professor Willis said.

“The co-creation of this Fellowship with our University partners is a great example of industry and education working together towards addressing the opportunities and challenges facing Australia,” said Westpac Bicentennial Foundation Chief Executive Officer Susan Bannigan.

The Fellowship will be awarded annually. The partnership with Westpac reflects the University’s strong engagement focus and commitment to working with industry.
