Melbourne still Australia’s best on THE rankings

The University of Melbourne has retained its place as the number one university in the country in the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

The University remains at number 33 in the world, marking the seventh straight year it has been among the top 40 universities globally.

Now in its 13th year, the THE rankings are among the most comprehensive and prestigious in the global higher education sector.

This year’s rankings also received the stamp of approval from Pricewaterhouse Coopers after the firm conducted an independent audit of THE’s methodology.

The University improved its overall performance on the rankings, with increases in its teaching, citations and international outlook metrics.

The result also mirrors the University’s position in the 2016 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) where it was also ranked first in Australia.

University of Melbourne Acting Vice-Chancellor Margaret Sheil celebrated the announcement.

“These results stem from the hard work of academic staff in producing outstanding research and providing a world-class education for our students,” Professor Sheil said.

“It is wonderful that all that effort is reflected in Melbourne being consistently rated as one of the finest institutions in the world.”
