Inappropriate behaviour at University of Melbourne campus

Yesterday the University of Melbourne became aware of reports that two people were handing out inappropriate flyers and behaving offensively on campus.

Campus Security immediately asked the group to leave and are closely monitoring the campus to ensure they don’t return.

The University does not condone activities likely to incite racism and intolerance. Staff, student leaders and affiliated colleges together work hard to create a strong, inclusive and respectful campus community in which diversity is recognised and valued.

Our industry leading wellbeing and safety initiatives include the Safer Community Program and the Australian-first free ‘UniSafe’ phone app, which provides emergency contact details and safety information for all members of the University’s community.

The annual Respect Week series of events also promotes our vision for a vibrant and inclusive community.

We also make staff and students aware of the Security Escort Service, which is free of charge, and ask them to call the Security on 8344 6666 or Victoria Police on 000 in an emergency.
