University of Melbourne ranks in top 40 globally

The University of Melbourne has ranked 39th in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2019, jumping from 41st place last year.

This places it in the top 40 globally across all three of the major ranking bodies – QS, the Academic Rankings of World Universities (ARWU) at number 39, and the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings at number 32.

The University has also again ranked number one in Australia in THE’s World Reputation Rankings for 2018, for the eighth consecutive year.

University of Melbourne Vice-Chancellor Glyn Davis said the University’s ranking highlighted its strong international standing and is a testament to the work of all University staff.

“This is a great result for the University, which we wouldn’t have been able achieve without the hard work and commitment of our researchers and professional staff,” Professor Davis said.

“It’s encouraging to see that the University is now placed in the top 40 globally across the three major ranking bodies.”

The QS World University Rankings is an annual league table of the top 1000 universities in the world. It has published the world rankings since 2004.
