The University of Melbourne and Monash University welcome the Federal Government’s $25 million budget commitment to establish a national coasts, environment and climate science research and education centre at the Quarantine Station Precinct at Point Nepean.

This project could enhance Victoria’s standing as a hub for climate related research and teaching, anchored by a collaboration between two great universities. It also offers opportunity for strong community engagement with the historic, environmental and scientific significance of the site.

The universities are focused on the environmental and cultural sensitivities of the Point Nepean precinct and the absolute need to listen and work closely with the local community on any future proposals for the area.

The universities look forward to working in partnership with Federal, State and local Governments to finalise a proposal and business case consistent with the Victorian Government’s masterplan for the Quarantine Station Precinct.
