Confirmed case of COVID-19 at University of Melbourne
The University of Melbourne can confirm that a staff member has been tested positive for coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Our number one priority is the health, safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and the entire University community. Our thoughts are with our staff member.
On Friday 13 March, the staff member visited level 5 of the building located at 207-221 Bouverie Street, Carlton, as well as the associated common areas.
Those people who may have been in close contact with the staff member have already been notified and advised to self-isolate.
We can also confirm that the staff member was not unwell or sick when they attended campus and has experienced only mild symptoms. The staff member is at home self-isolating and currently they are feeling well. The University has been in contact with them directly to ensure that they are well supported.
Once notified, we immediately evacuated the building and commenced a deep sanitising clean. The building will be closed until Monday 23 March and we are arranging alternative workspaces for staff affected by this closure.
The University continues to work closely with the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to ensure the health and safety of all our students, staff and visitors.
This is a complex global health crisis that continues to evolve. We will continue to act on the advice of the DHHS and we have a team in place working around the clock to support our entire University community during this time.
