University of Melbourne’s new innovation precinct will host cutting-edge interactive exhibitions, workshops, lectures and panel discussions as one of the major partners of Melbourne Knowledge Week 2021.

From 29 April to 2 May, the University’s recently completed Melbourne Connect will be one of the four major hubs for Melbourne Knowledge Week.

During the week, visitors can take part in a  hands-on exhibition mapping the journey from Prototype to Product, interact with rare musical instruments virtually through the Living Instruments project, participate in ideathons and share knowledge on subjects ranging from hardware startups to fixing the pandemic.

Melbourne Entrepreneurial Centre Executive Director, Professor Colin McLeod, said the week is an opportunity for the University’s emerging entrepreneurial talents to showcase the startups they are building. The connections made during events like these can make a huge different in the journeys of these founders.

“We’re thrilled that the Melbourne Accelerator Program (MAP) and Translating Research at Melbourne (TRAM) programs will continue to play a key part in the Melbourne Knowledge Week schedule – and the fact that this year it’s at Melbourne Connect makes it even more special,” Professor McLeod said.

Melbourne Connect Director (Operations), Phil Callaghan, said the vision is for Melbourne Connect to be a facilitator to encourage and enhance seamless interactions between researchers, industry partners and the public-at-large.

“We are pleased that as a Hub for Melbourne Knowledge Week, Melbourne Connect’s state-of-the-art spaces will host a varied range of free events to spur knowledge sharing and celebrate the excitement of innovative thinking with Melburnians,” Mr Callaghan said.

Melbourne Connect will join the heritage-listed Meat Market in North Melbourne, the State Library of Victoria, and Wesley Place as one of four festival hubs for Melbourne Knowledge Week.

Melbourne Connect, located in the heart of Melbourne’s Innovation Districts (MID) aims to be a big part of the engine that powers the city’s place as a global leader for research and advancement.
