Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)

Award: 2007 Nobel Peace Prize
Awarded for: Building up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and laying the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change
Awarded with: Al Gore


The IPCC has produced six ‘Assessment Reports’ since its creation in 1988. Many University of Melbourne academics have contributed to these reports over the years, including on the Fourth Assessment Report that was released in 2007, the year this organisation shared the Nobel Peace Prize with climate campaigner Al Gore. Mr Gore was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Melbourne in 2017.
