Global partnerships

The Global team is responsible for the development, management and stewardship of the University of Melbourne's global partnership portfolio. Through oversight of more than 300 institutional agreements worldwide, the team supports the cultivation of high-value international relationships that expand opportunities for collaboration, innovation and knowledge exchange.

Our role is to ensure the University's global partnerships are strategically aligned, effectively governed, and positioned to create lasting impact. In doing so, we contribute directly to Strategy 2030's focus on strengthening strategic partnerships, deepening global connectivity and extending the reach and influence of Melbourne's education and research.

Alliances and networks

Through strategic alliances, we foster international collaboration with researchers, universities, and innovation partners, delivering impactful experiences for students and staff.

Universitas 21 (U21)

Established in 1997 by former Vice-Chancellor Professor Alan Gilbert, the University of Melbourne has played a leading role in the U21 alliance, connecting 27 research-intensive universities and creating unique opportunities for students, researchers, and staff to collaborate with the world's top institutions.

Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU)

APRU is a leading research network addressing the region's pressing challenges, with Melbourne academics contributing to cutting-edge work from mental health training to water management.

Consortium for Advanced Studies Abroad (CASA)

CASA, an international alliance of 11 leading universities, advances global mobility through partnerships with premier institutions including Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, Penn, Vanderbilt, and Trinity College Dublin.

Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU)

Through the ACU, the University of Melbourne joins over 500 institutions in 50 countries, advancing higher education as a force for good across the Commonwealth and beyond.
