The University’s governing body (University Council), is supported by its sub-committees including the Academic Board which is responsible to Council for academic matters, teaching and research quality. The University Executive is the University’s principal management committee.
The University of Melbourne is governed by the University of Melbourne Act 2009 (Vic).
The 13 member Council is the University's governing body, empowered with the authority to make statutes and regulation while the Academic Board is the chief academic body. The University has ten faculties and is led and managed by a Vice-Chancellor and the senior leadership team.
The University of Melbourne governs its operations through a hierarchy of instruments, referred to as the Regulatory Framework.
