Travel support for LGBTQIA+ staff and graduate researchers
The University of Melbourne has guidance available for those considering travel overseas, including to destinations that might be unfriendly or unsafe for LGBTQIA+ people.

The University’s travel management portal, UniTravel ATPI, requires a "traveller greeting", separate to an academic title when booking flights and hotels however 'Mx' is not an option (current information as of 2 March 2026).
Healix specialist risk assessment
In addition to the information provided by Health and Safety, Healix (the University's 24/7 Emergency Travel Assistance Program) offers a Specialist Risk Assessment service, which is a personalised intelligence briefing that provides risk advice and recommendations based on an individual's specific travel location/s and personal information. This can be requested by completing this document (DOCX, 3564.95 KB) and sending it to gsoc@healix.com.
Smart Traveller website
Smartraveller is provided by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The site maintains travel advisories for most countries around the world. The website assigns an overall advice level to each, based on the level of risk travellers (Australian passports and others) may face there.
Smart Traveller advice for LGBTQIA+ travellers and under each country's page, search under the "Local Laws section" for specific LGBTQIA+ related advice.
