Professor Frank Vetere

Advances the University's international strategy and global impact, working with counterparts across the Chancellery and Faculties to develop and implement strategies that strengthen international partnerships, expand global student experiences and promote diversity within the international student cohort.

Frank Vetere is a Professor of Human–Computer Interaction (HCI) whose research focuses on human-centred AI, technologies for well-being, and innovation design.

Professor Vetere served as Deputy Dean (Engagement) in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology from 2019 to 2025, where he led initiatives to strengthen the Faculty’s engagement with industry, government, and the broader community. He was also Director of the Microsoft Centre for Social Natural User Interfaces (SocialNUI) from 2004 to 2018, where he led the development of new interactive technologies that support informal social engagement.

Professor Vetere was a founding member and leader of the Human–Computer Interaction group at the University of Melbourne. He has been awarded the CHISIG Medal for outstanding service to and promotion of Human–Computer Interaction in Australia, and the HFESA Ron Cummins Award for highly esteemed research in human factors and ergonomics.

Professor Vetere holds a Bachelor of Science and a PhD in Human–Computer Interaction from the University of Melbourne. He is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) Company Directors Course. Prior to joining the University, he worked as a user experience engineer and, earlier in his career, as a secondary school teacher.
