The University of Melbourne’s Melbourne Connect has partnered with Open House Melbourne and is set to star as a major feature of the 2021 program, which this year has pivoted to an online offering.

Taking place over 24 and 25 July, the Open House Weekend attracts over 113,000 attendees at 308 events across the city. This year's program will focus on the theme of reconnection.

Those who sign up to the Melbourne Connect virtual offering will be able to access a special live tour from architects Woods Bagot, who will speak to the vision of Melbourne Connect under the theme of “Designing for Innovation".

Principal Architect from Woods Bagot, Hazel Porter, will speak to the concept of innovation precincts, and the approach that was taken to designing Melbourne Connect.

Melbourne Connect is designed by internationally acclaimed architectural firms Woods Bagot and Hayball, with fit-outs by Hassell, Architectus and Smart Design Studio.

Built on the site of the former Royal Women’s Hospital, it features a series of interconnecting buildings arranged around a central open space, with landscape architecture by ASPECT Studios, known as Womin Djerring (Come Together).

From its digital bricks, to its Science Gallery and Telstra Creator Space the precinct, which is powered by the University of Melbourne in partnership with a consortium led by Lendlease, will no doubt be a highlight on many people's programs.
