New Deputy Director at Centre for Digital Transformation of Health

Dr Daniel Capurro has been appointed the new Deputy Director of the University's Centre for Digital Transformation of Health.

Dr Capurro is a medical doctor trained in internal medicine, and holds a PhD in biomedical and health informatics from the University of Washington in Seattle.

Much of his research seeks to develop methods to improve the use of electronic medical record data for research including digital phenotyping, clinical data quality and the application of process mining to healthcare processes.

His academic home is the School of Computing and Information Systems, where he is a senior lecturer in digital health.

Dr Capurro's  role as Deputy Director demonstrates the commitment between the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology to create a central hub at the University for digital health and informatics education and translational research.

He has been serving on the Centre’s executive committee and will continue to bring breadth and depth of expertise to the Centre’s strategic and operational plans.

Since joining the Centre in 2019, he has been actively involved in Health Informatics teaching and research, as well as setting up the Digital Health Validitron, a pipeline to validate digital health innovations.

Dr Capurro will be replacing Professor Karin Verspoor, who departs to lead the new School of Computing Technologies at RMIT University.
