New Fellows of the Australian Academy of the Humanities
Professor Tony Birch, Professor Fran Martin and Professor Tim Parkin from the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Arts are among 41 distinguished humanities scholars elected to the Fellowship of the Australian Academy of the Humanities, Australia’s highest honour within the humanities.
Professor Tony Birch is the current Boisbouvier Chair in Australian Literature. He is a prolific and award-winning Indigenous writer whose publications have significantly influenced understanding of Australia’s shared history. Professor Birch was elected to the Academy in 2022 as an Honorary Fellow.
Professor Fran Martin is a Professor of Cultural Studies. Her path-setting research has made highly significant contributions to the field of Asia-related cultural studies, as well as to sexuality and gender studies in the context of globalisation, a career-long specialisation.
Professor Tim Parkin is a leading Roman social historian with a distinguished international reputation for his pioneering work on the ancient Roman lifecycle from social, cultural, legal, and demographic perspectives.
