Science Gallery Melbourne engages global youth in Future Careers at latest Online Forum
The latest STEAM Careers Online Forum was hosted at the University of Melbourne’s Science Gallery on Monday, opened by Nina Taylor, Parliamentary Secretary for Education. The forum explored Future Careers to a global online audience of secondary school students, with over 7,000 registrations recorded.
The forum featured a panel discussion with Kate Nakashima, Masters student at the University of Melbourne and researcher at the Plants for Space Australian Research Council Centre, and Sputniko!, a Japanese artist whose work is currently featured at the Science Gallery’s SCI-FI: Mythologies Transformed exhibition, alongside fellow panellists Sarah Mansell and Tom Simic.
Broadcast live on a vibrant set at the University of Melbourne’s Science Gallery, this event provided an opportunity for students to hear about non-traditional career journeys in transdisciplinary spaces, including the rapidly growing space industry.
This edition of the STEAM Careers Online Forum, the seventh since the series began in 2022, is part of the Science Gallery Melbourne’s Global Classroom initiative, designed to enhance and expand educational opportunities for an international audience with guest speakers from across the globe. Previous forums have featured collaborators from Singapore and India and in total have now engaged over 31,000 students from more than 15 countries since 2022.
