University of Melbourne and Universitas Indonesia deepen partnership with new student exchange agreement
The University of Melbourne has signed a new university-wide Student Exchange Agreement with Universitas Indonesia (UI) to strengthen student mobility and the long-standing education and research partnerships of more than 30 years.
The agreement establishes a reciprocal semester-long exchange pathway for undergraduate and postgraduate students across both universities, building on existing faculty-level agreements.
The agreement was signed during a delegation to the University’s Parkville campus led by UI’s Rector, Professor Heri Hermansyah. The visit provided the opportunity to reflect on the breadth of the current partnerships, identify areas for deeper engagement, and explore future collaboration.
The delegation also attended a research collaboration session co-chaired by University of Melbourne Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global) Professor Frank Vetere and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Collaboration) Professor Alastair Sloan.
Professor Vetere said the new agreement marked an important step in expanding a valued and enduring partnership.
“This agreement creates new opportunities for students to immerse themselves in different academic and cultural contexts, while strengthening the foundations for deeper collaboration across our two institutions.
“By supporting student mobility alongside joint research and education initiatives, we are fostering the exchange of ideas, perspectives and expertise that is essential to addressing complex regional and global challenges. We look forward to building on this partnership in ways that enrich student learning, advance discovery and deliver meaningful benefits to our communities.”
Professor Hermansyah said Universitas Indonesia welcomed the opportunity to further strengthen ties with the University of Melbourne.
“Universitas Indonesia is delighted to build upon our strong partnership with the University of Melbourne. This new agreement will facilitate deeper academic and cultural exchange, benefiting students and researchers at both of our institutions.”
The signing of this exchange agreement demonstrates the University of Melbourne’s continued commitment to building a globally connected institution, strengthening co-designed research, teaching excellence and expanded international opportunities for students.
