The University of Melbourne and Lendlease are delighted to announce public sector educator Australia and New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG) as one of a number of new partners to move to the Melbourne Connect innovation precinct in 2021.

Created in 2002 by government and in collaboration with partner universities, ANZSOG is a global leader in education and government-focused research, lifting the quality of public sector leadership in both Australia and New Zealand.

ANZSOG’s focus on research within contemporary government policy development and management, which draws on its networks of scholars, practitioners and government, make its new location at Melbourne Connect an ideal fit for the not-for-profit.

University of Melbourne Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Mark Hargreaves said the addition of ANZSOG to the Melbourne Connect community would contribute significant value.

“The University of Melbourne sought precinct partners for Melbourne Connect that would fit with the precinct’s mission to connect researchers, government and industry to unlock ethical solutions to societal challenges.

“ANZSOG’s collaborative approach to research, driven by key issues raised in both the higher education and government sectors, make it a perfect fit for the precinct.”

Chief Executive Officer and Dean of ANZSOG and Enterprise Professor at the University of Melbourne Professor Ken Smith said the facilities and opportunities afforded to ANZSOG by the co-location at Melbourne Connect are “without doubt truly game-changing for us.”

“The last year has shown us that while ANZSOG can adapt its activities to an online environment, there is no long-term substitute for bringing people and companies/agencies working closely with UoM together in state-of-the-art facilities like Melbourne Connect,” said Professor Smith.

“This move will help us to bring more of our teaching, thought leadership and research activities into one place, and provide an enhanced experience for our students, alumni, and staff engaged in delivering ANZSOG programs, as we work to improve the quality and depth of public sector leadership across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.”

ANZSOG will join the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT), the School of Computing and Information Systems (CIS) and other co-located tenants such as SANE Australia, MAXONIQ and Clarke-Hopkins-Clarke among others. Melbourne Connect is also home to the Science Gallery Melbourne, the first to open in the Southern Hemisphere.

ANZSOG’s 3,600 strong alumni network of leaders across senior levels of the public sectors of Australia and New Zealand, and across 37 countries, make it well suited to be located at the heart of Melbourne Connect, a key part of the Melbourne and Global Innovation Districts.

Ultimately inspiring public sector leaders to make a positive difference to residents of Australian and New Zealand, ANZSOG will occupy an integral role in the precinct’s focus on research innovation and development, playing an active part in the vibrant ecosystem of University of Melbourne linked organisations.
