Professor Melitta Hogarth awarded Distinguished Australian First Nations Creative Leadership Award
Ngarrngga’s Director and Professor in Indigenous Education at the Faculty of Education, Professor Melitta Hogarth has been awarded the 2025 Distinguished Australian First Nations Creative Leadership Award from the Deans and Directors of Creative Arts (DDCA).
The DDCA Award recognised her leadership in developing Ngarrngga education resources, created to support the landmark exhibition 65,000 Years: A Short History of Australian Art, currently being held at the Potter Museum of Art. The 391 resources and additional professional learning initiatives created by the Ngarrngga team provide educators and students necessary context, case studies and activities to get the most out of the exhibition.
“Professor Hogarth’s submission demonstrates outstanding leadership in truth-telling and curriculum transformation, with a strong emphasis on embedding Indigenous perspectives across education sectors…” - Professor Naomi Sunderland, Griffith University and DDCA Judge.
Ngarrngga is an Indigenous-led signature project at the University of Melbourne and a collaboration between the Faculty of Education, Indigenous Studies Unit and Indigenous Knowledge Institute.
