AIMES wins two Intelligent Transport Systems Australia Awards

AIMES received two awards at the 13th Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Australia Awards.

The University of Melbourne-based Australian Integrated Multimodal EcoSystem (AIMES) has been acknowledged with two awards at the 13th Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Australia Awards, presented in Sydney on 16 February.

AIMES’ partner, industry leader Q-Free Australia, received the ITS Australia ‘Connected and Automated Vehicle’ award for a joint project involving AIMES, Lexus Australia and Ambulance Victoria.

Additionally, AIMES Program Manager Nick Collins was a joint recipient of the 2023 Young Professionals Award, presented by Transurban.

The ITS Australia Awards are the intelligent transport systems industry’s most prestigious awards. For more than a decade, they have recognised and celebrated the growing influence of ITS across Australia’s transport industry.

The ‘Connected and Autonomous Vehicle Award’ honours the cooperative effort for Enabling Emergency Service V2V Communication for Safety Applications in Australia with industry leader Q-Free Australia. In this project, Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) allowed emergency service cars to communicate with other vehicles, request preference at signalised intersections, and receive and read messages about upcoming events.

"We are thrilled to have won the ITS Australia Connected and Automated Vehicle award with our industry-leading Q-Free. The project has tremendous potential to improve outcomes and safety for ambulance patients and staff, as well as emergency service vehicles in general. Many congratulations to our own Nick Collins, who received the ITS Young Professional Award,” said Professor Sarvi, Founder and the Director of AIMES.
