Associate Professor Renata Borovica-Gajic wins 2025 Women in AI Award
Associate Professor Renata Borovica-Gajic, an ARC DECRA Fellow and Associate Dean (Diversity and Inclusion) in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, has been awarded the 2025 Women in AI Award in the ‘AI in Data’ category for the Asia-Pacific region.
The award recognises leading women in AI across data mining, engineering and architecture who are driving innovation and real-world impact. Associate Professor Borovica-Gajic’s research focuses on building self-driving databases — AI systems designed to automate complex data tasks and help users quickly turn data into insights.
Her work brings together database systems, machine learning and artificial intelligence, with the aim of improving performance and accessibility in data analytics across industries.
“I’m honoured to receive this award,” Associate Professor Borovica-Gajic said.
“It’s a reminder that each woman’s success in tech helps pave the way for a more inclusive future. I’m proud to be building AI tools that make data more accessible, and to support the next generation of women in this space.”
The Women in AI Awards are a significant acknowledgement in developing the credibility and exposure for women in AI in the Asia-Pacific. Women in AI is a non-profit organisation founded in 2016 to work towards inclusive AI that benefits global society and promotes empowerment, knowledge and active participation through education, research, events and blogging.
