Dr Sophie Lamond has been awarded a 2023 AASHE Sustainability Award for outstanding research in higher education sustainability, by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).

A research fellow at Melbourne Law School working with the Melbourne Social Equity Institute, Dr Lamond was recognised for her doctoral dissertation Campus foodscapes as sites of transformation: mapping policy and projects in US universities envisioning just, sustainable and healthy food systems.

The research investigates how campus communities are modelling food system transformations and includes maps of policies, projects, and networks related to the sustainable food systems in American higher education institutions.

During this research Dr Lamond visited several American university campuses and met with practitioners working to transform their campus environments, to gain deeper insight and understanding of how communities work together to drive just, equitable and enduring sustainability transitions.

Dr Lamond’s doctoral research was supervised by Melbourne Law School Professor Christine Parker and Professor John Howe.

AASHE awards institutions and individuals that help lead higher education to a sustainable future.

"The 2023 AASHE Sustainability Award winners exemplify an unwavering commitment to advancing sustainability within their academic institutions. They are setting new standards and reshaping the landscape of sustainability in higher education," said AASHE Executive Director Meghan Fay Zahniser.
