Professor Ingrid Scheffer and Associate Professor Piero Perucca were both recognised for their work in the field of epilepsy by the Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists (ANZAN).

Laureate Professor Ingrid Scheffer delivered the Jim Lance Oration at the recent annual ANZAN conference.

The Oration is the most prestigious plenary lecture at the annual scientific meeting and recognises Professor Scheffer’s pioneering work in the field of epilepsy, in particular in epilepsy genetics.

Her work has transformed our understanding of the causes of the chronic disorder.

Associate Professor Piero Perucca received the Leonard Cox Award in recognition of his contributions to epilepsy diagnosis and management, in particular his work in the field of the genetics of focal epilepsies (in collaboration with Professor Sam Berkovic and Professor Ingrid Scheffer).

The Award is given to an investigator who has contributed significantly to neuroscience research at an early stage of their career. The focal epilepsies are the most prevalent epilepsy group, accounting for 60 percent of all epilepsies.
