Associate Professor Daniel Capurro from the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology has been inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI), in recognition of his contributions to digital health.

Associate Professor Capurro was one of 24 new Fellows inducted at the 2025 American Medical Informatics Association Annual Symposium, hosted in Atlanta.

“I am honoured to welcome the Class of 2025 ACMI Fellows. Each year, election to ACMI becomes more competitive and this cohort exemplifies the highest achievement in biomedical and health informatics,” ACMI President Peter Embi said.

“Their accomplishments— and their dedication to the science and practice of informatics— strengthen ACMI’s collective mission and ensure we stay at the forefront of innovation in biomedical and health informatics.”

Among A/Prof Capurro’s accomplishments is the co-leading of the digital health Validitron in his role as Deputy Director of the Centre for Digital Transformation of Health.

The Validitron is a research platform that focuses on the development, validation and evaluation of digital health solutions. It combines expertise in digital health implementation, user experience (UX) validation and clinical simulation to address common challenges in digital health innovation.

A/Prof Capurro was previously the Chief Medical Information Officer within Chile’s Catholic University healthcare network, where he founded the Chilean National Centre for Health Information Systems, an initiative to implement healthcare information interoperability standards and to develop the health informatics workforce in Chile.

“I’m deeply honoured to be inducted as a Fellow of ACMI, alongside other esteemed leaders in the field,” he said. “I look forward to continuing our important work in this space, always driving innovation in digital health.”
