Dr Elizabeth Lakey awarded the Universitas 21 Fellowship for academic staff

Dr Elizabeth Lakey has received the U21 Fellowship for academic staff.

Dr Elizabeth Mairi Lakey from the Faculty of Arts has been awarded this year's Universitas 21 (U21) Fellowship for academic staff.

The U21 Fellowship recognises outstanding teaching performance, provides development opportunities for the recipients and benefits the University through the advancement of its teaching and learning quality. The key objective of the Fellowship is to advance the strategic educational priorities of the University while enabling the fellow to develop their expertise, to pass on their learnings and to strengthen links with other U21 institutions.

Dr Lakey is the Academic Coordinator for Work Integrated Learning (WIL) and Head of Program, Arts Teaching Innovation in the Faculty of Arts. The Fellowship will enable Dr Lakey to explore innovations in teaching and learning through collaboration with international partners, specifically in Experiential Learning, to create enhanced learning experiences that are student-centered, supportive and authentic.

Dr Lakey will be visiting three U21 institutions – the University of Auckland, the University of Edinburgh and the University of Zurich – to explore how the U21 partners approach equity of access to WIL and experiential learning opportunities. Furthermore, the visits will build on existing research which examines how to make short-term global volunteering placements more meaningful in terms of real cultural exchange.
