Dr Nuruzzaman Khan has been awarded the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) Gold Medal Award for 2024.

Dr Khan is a research fellow at the Nossal Institute for Global Health in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences.

The award recognises Dr Khan’s contributions to the field of public health, particularly his research on maternal and child health in the context of low- and middle-income countries, as well as among refugees and forcibly displaced populations.

"I am deeply honoured to receive the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences Gold Medal Award. This recognition further strengthens my commitment to advancing global health and reinforces my dedication to standing with and serving disadvantaged populations around the world." Dr Khan said.

Started in 1985, the BAS Gold Medal is one of the highest honours conferred by the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences and stands among the most prestigious scientific awards in the country. It is awarded annually to two scientists based on the quality and volume of their scientific publications, innovation, societal relevance, and potential for long-term impact—evaluated through  peer review by panels of distinguished national and international experts. Dr Khan is the youngest recipient of this award in the nearly 40-year history of the BAS Gold Medal.

"I am thrilled to see Dr Khan receive this prestigious award. His passion for public health and his relentless pursuit of innovative solutions have been truly inspiring. We are incredibly proud to have him as part of our team at the Nossal Institute.” Nossal Institute Director Professor Cathy Vaughan said.
