Faculty of Science Associate Professor Laura Dooley was recognised at the Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT) ceremony on February 24.

Associate Professor Dooley, from the Melbourne Veterinary School, was awarded a ‘Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning’ in recognition of her commitment to teaching and enhancing student experience.

The annual awards recognise the impact that educators have on the learning and teaching experiences of students, celebrating the programs and educators that make an impact on student outcomes. They promote excellence in learning and teaching in all aspects of higher education.

As an education-focused academic within the Melbourne Veterinary School, Associate Professor Dooley practices student-centred learning in subjects such as veterinary physiology, pharmacology and professional studies programs for the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and the Bachelor of Science. She also publishes articles about veterinary education practices to improve student outcomes for all.

Associate Professor Dooley said she was humbled to receive the award.

“It feels like a shared recognition that reflects the incredible support of my colleagues and the dedication of my students,”

“We are so fortunate to welcome an incredibly talented cohort of students at the University of Melbourne. They are engaged and curious learners, who are pleasure to teach. I love seeing our graduates go on to make a difference in their chosen field.” she said.

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine graduates have gone on to have a positive impact in society across a wide range of fields including animal health, public health, biomedical research and environmental conservation.

“During their short time at university we have an opportunity to foster their professional development and spark a love of lifelong learning,” Associate Professor Dooley said.

“It is inspiring to be part of this transformative process!”
