Professor Shanton Chang honoured with North Star Medal of Lifetime Achievement
Professor Shanton Chang was recognised with the North Star Medal of Lifetime Achievement in the 2024 A. Noam Chomsky Global Connections Awards, in Dhulikhel, Nepal last week.
Presented by the Society of Transnational Academic Researchers (STAR) Scholars Network, the award celebrates Professor Chang’s significant contributions to interdisciplinary research and international collaboration, particularly in understanding the information behaviour of international students.
Professor Chang is from the School of Computing and Information Systems in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology and is also the Associate Dean (International) for the Faculty.
Professor Chang has a wealth of experience in international education, with a background in recruitment, teaching and learning in diverse cultural settings, career mentoring and developing strategies and policies for international education.
“I am deeply honoured to receive this award, which reflects not only my work but also the incredible collaborations and support from colleagues, students and global partners over the years,” Professor Chang said.
“International education is about more than crossing borders - it’s about crossing boundaries of understanding, collaboration and opportunity.”
The STAR is a global platform that promotes social mobility through research on international education, academic mobility and employability. It facilitates dialogue and policy influence through events and consultations, while the STAR Scholars Network fosters transnational research and collaboration.
