The University of Melbourne has one winner and has been highly commended in three categories at the 2024 Green Gown Awards Australasia.

Linh Do, Director of the Wattle Fellowship, was named the winner in the Sustainable Leadership category, recognition of her nearly two decades of experience in this area and her work fostering the next generation of student sustainability leaders.

The year-long co-curricular Wattle Fellowship program has engaged over 2300 students from diverse backgrounds so far. Sustainability Coordinator Emilia Bisogni was also acknowledged in the Sustainable Leadership category as highly commended, while Heather Gill, a volunteer at Queen’s College, was highly commended in the Sustainability Champion – Staff category.

The University of Melbourne was highly commended in the organisational Nature Positive category for its commitment to no-net-loss of on-campus biodiversity by 2025 and a net-gain by 2030, informed by the Biodiversity Baseline Data Project, led by the Sustainability Team.

Now in its 15th year, the Green Gown Awards Australasia featured finalists from 18 institutions across Australia and New Zealand, reflecting the sector’s leadership in advancing environmental and social responsibility.

After winning in the regional awards in 2023, the University of Melbourne also competed in the October 2024 International Green Gown Awards and was highly commended in the Sustainability Institute of the Year category. This recognised the University’s long-standing and holistic commitment to sustainability, significant sustainable achievements and strong integration of sustainability principles across disciplines and operations.
