The University of Melbourne has been recognised with a Sustainability Champions Award at the QS EduData Summit 2024 in Washington DC.

The Sustainability Champions Awards were received by institutions who have demonstrated a strong track record and commitment to sustainability, and follows the University of Melbourne ranking 9th in the world in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2024.

A steep increase in sustainability scores also increased the University’s standing in the overall Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings, which were announced at the EduData Summit.

The University of Melbourne is now ranked 13th in the world by QS World University Rankings and remains the highest ranked Australian institution across the three major global rankings.

Sustainability initiatives, successes and next steps in the University’s operations, research and teaching are detailed in the 2023 Sustainability Report: Partnering for Progress, now available online.

Ms Katerina Kapobassis, the University of Melbourne’s Acting Chief Operating Officer and Vice President (Administration and Finance) said:

“This award recognises the work of many people across the University who are making our campuses more sustainable, and the University’s leadership role in tackling one of the world’s greatest challenges.”
