Dr Selina Parry awarded Al and Val Rosenstrauss Fellowship at Cooper Foundation

Dr Selina Parry, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physiotherapy, has been awarded the 2022 Al & Val Rosenstrauss Fellowship at the Cooper Foundation.

Dr Selina Parry from the Department of Physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne is one of three outstanding applicants to be awarded a prestigious five-year Al & Val Rosenstrauss Fellowship at the Cooper Foundation for 2022.

Dr Parry is one of the three applicants ranked highest by the foundation’s scientific advisory committee out of the 73 applications received.

A major goal of the Al and Val Rosenstrauss Fellowship is to provide support to Australia’s outstanding early to mid-career researchers so they can contribute to our understanding and treatment of diseases and disorders within the foundation’s chosen areas of support.

With the support of this fellowship over the next five years, Dr Parry has some key aims she would like to work on: to explore who is at highest risk of poor recovery outcomes following an intensive care admission to enable targeting of resources and rehabilitation to patients with greatest need; to co-design – with patients and families – and explore the benefit of a multi-faceted rehabilitation strategy to support intensive care patients in their recovery, with the aim of optimising their return to work and usual activities.

Dr Parry has more than ten years of clinical experience within the area of cardiorespiratory physiotherapy and completed her PhD  in intensive care rehabilitation and recovery in 2015 and has spent time abroad primarily working with researchers across the United States and the United Kingdom.

Dr Parry is passionate about educating the next generation of physiotherapists in her role within cardiorespiratory physiotherapy tertiary education, and improving health outcomes for patients after admission to intensive care through leading clinical-focused research.
