Planning approval for Fishermans Bend campus

The Minister for Planning Richard Wynne approved the University of Melbourne's proposal to develop our site at Fishermans Bend, with an announcement on 1 September 2021.

The University welcomes the Minister’s planning approval for our new engineering and design campus at Fishermans Bend, planned to feature large scale facilities for advanced manufacturing, fabrication, testing and prototyping.

Set to open in 2025, Stage 1 of the campus will be purpose-built for the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT) and the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning (ABP).

Located alongside Australia’s leading industry, this initiative is a unique opportunity to shape Melbourne’s advanced manufacturing and design future.

With access to the biggest and best facilities, researchers, students and industry will come together at the campus to design and engineer solutions to some of the world’s greatest challenges including in climate resilience, zero emission energy, sustainable affordable housing and more.

The Fishermans Bend campus supports the University’s mission to contribute to social, economic and cultural wealth through education and research with transformative impact.
