Chancellor’s Report

Council established a Selection Committee comprising Council members, members with academic expertise, and one external member, to make a recommendation to the Council on a preferred candidate for the position of Vice-Chancellor before the end of the year.

Council noted the Acting Vice-Chancellor’s Report, which included updates on:

President of Academic Board’s Report

The President of the Academic Board reported on the previous Academic Board meeting and noted that the University Response to Generative AI: Teaching and Learning Action Plan, a TEQSA requirement, was well received by the Board.

Performance Reporting

Council discussed the April 2024 Report on the Advancing Melbourne Performance Framework, noting good progress on increasing the proportion of commencing students with an indicated disability and internal student experience results.

Melbourne University Publishing Ltd CEO Appointment

Council approved the appointment of Ms Foong Ling Kong as Chief Executive Officer of Melbourne University Publishing Ltd.

Sidney Myer University Trust

Council approved the expenditure of trust income from the Sidney Myer University Trust to fund a seven-year renewal of the Cultural Partnership Agreement between the University of Melbourne and the Australian Chamber Orchestra and to fund a five-year pilot project and research opportunity for an ACO Foundations project in a low SES elementary school in Victoria, based on the successful ACO Foundation program in Sydney.

Council Committee reports from the Finance, Gift, Human Resources and Remuneration, Governance and Nominations, and Audit and Risk Committees were noted.
