- Returning applicants: Welcome back! Select 'Use My Last Application' to save time, but please ensure your CV and contact details are up to date to reflect your recent achievements.
- Manage your profile: You can use this secure portal at any time to update your documentation or reset your password.
What happens next?
You will receive an email confirming receipt of your application. If you do not receive any communication, please check that the email address used on your application form is correct as well as your Spam folder. If you have not entered a valid email address, we will not be able to contact you. The following guide shows the stages in a typical application process. However, as we have such a diverse range of roles the application and assessment processes may vary to ensure we’re giving you the best opportunity to demonstrate your skills and experience.
Your application will be considered by a Selection Panel for shortlisting.
If you are not shortlisted, you will be notified via email that you have been unsuccessful. We are committed to providing all applicants with an outcome. We believe in transparency and aim to provide this outcome within 2 weeks following the advertising close date.
If you have been shortlisted, congratulations! A friendly University representative will call you to conduct a phone screen, or arrange a time for an interview, or alternative selection activity. This may include an invitation email to complete a video interview, job-oriented assessment or psychometric assessment.
If you are successful in progressing to an interview, you will be advised of the panel representatives prior to the interview. Interviews generally take between 30 – 60 minutes and may take place virtually or at one of our beautiful campus locations.
General interview tips include:
- Read the position description. Make sure you thoroughly understand the role you have applied for and prepare to speak to your strengths as a candidate based on the responsibilities and selection criteria.
- Do your research. Our About Us section is a great place to start. If your application relates to a specific Faculty, research institution/initiative or project be sure to explore any relevant publicly available resource or information provided by a University representative.
- Plan your trip. Make sure you know where you need to attend your interview and you have a clear plan on how to get there. Check traffic reports and public transport updates as necessary, if you are unclear of where to attend or concerned you may be delayed be sure to contact the representative who invited you.
- Prepare your own questions. We love to be asked about the exciting work being conducted by the University and it shows your motivation and passion.
If you are successful in progressing to the next stage your references will be contacted. You will be notified of this, and your permission obtained before this occurs.
If you are the preferred candidate, you will be contacted, and a letter of offer will be sent to you.
Candidates unsuccessful in progressing beyond the interview will be notified by phone and feedback will be provided as part of our commitment to providing a positive candidate experience.

Before starting your application, take a moment to review both the Job Advertisement and the Position Description. These documents provide a detailed understanding of the role and help you determine if it aligns with your skills, experience, and career goals.
If you have any questions or need further information, we encourage you to contact the Talent Acquisition representative listed in the advertisement. We’re happy to provide guidance and support to help you feel confident in your application.
- Applications close on the date specified in the advertisement. Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications after this deadline.
- Complete the application form thoroughly. You’ll need to provide personal details and may be asked for information on your education, previous employment, and more.
- Upload your CV, Cover Letter, and any other required documents (such as responses to Key Selection Criteria, if requested).
If a position requires specific qualifications, you must include full details in your application. If shortlisted for an interview, you may be required to bring certified copies or original documents (including transcripts, if applicable).
Yes, you can apply for multiple jobs. However, each job requires a separate application.
You can check your progress at any time by signing in as an Existing Applicant. This allows you to:
- View all your applications
- Complete or withdraw applications
- Update your personal details
- Change your password
No, you can complete your application in stages. Simply fill out the first page of the application and click Save & Continue. You can close the window and return later to complete it via your Candidate Home. Your application must be submitted before the deadline to be considered.
Please note: Applications must be completed within three (3) weeks otherwise they will be deleted. You will receive warning of this deletion via email.
Yes. The University of Melbourne treats personal information as confidential and complies with the Information Privacy Act (VIC) 2000 to protect your rights and prevent misuse of personal data.

Key Selection Criteria
When applying for a position at the University of Melbourne, you may be required to respond to key selection criteria along with your CV and cover letter. You are only required to respond to Key Selection Criteria if it is specifically requested in the job advertisement. These criteria help the selection panel assess your professional experience, skills and qualifications that are directly relevant to the role. These criteria help the section panel find out more information about your professional experience, skills and qualifications that directly relate to the position you are applying for.
- The key selection criteria are listed in the Position Description, which is attached at the bottom of the job advertisement.
- The criteria will be numbered, and you should address each one individually in your response.
- Read the position description carefully to understand the role’s requirements.
- Address each criterion separately, using specific examples from your experience to demonstrate your skills and suitability.
- Prepare your responses as a separate document and upload them along with your CV and cover letter.
Work Rights
All employees are required to provide certified copies of documents showing Australian work rights. These can be any of the following:
A certified copy of either
- A valid Australian or New Zealand passport
- An Australian citizenship certificate or an Australian birth certificate, and an Australian driver's licence or Government issued photo ID
- A certificate of evidence of Australian citizenship and an Australian driver's licence or Government issued photo ID
- A screenshot of the AEC electoral enrolment check and an Australian driver's licence or Government issued photo ID
A Certified copy of current passport and certified visa grant notification with suitable working rights.
Should you be offered employment at the University of Melbourne, you will be prompted to upload a copy of your certified work rights.
For the purposes of work rights applications at the University of Melbourne a certified copy is a photocopy of an original document that is verified as sighted (along with the original) by;
- a member of staff of the University including your supervisor or
