The Executive Director (Communications and Marketing) leads the University’s communications and marketing initiatives across nine faculties and Chancellery.
The Communications and Marketing team is dedicated to enhancing the University’s global reputation, fostering engagement, amplifying research impact and supporting international and domestic student recruitment. It provides strategic advice and delivery of strategic communications, marketing and digital services in support of the University’s Advancing Melbourne strategy.
Julia joined the University in early 2024 from the Victorian Government Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions where she was Chief Communications Officer and a member of the Executive Board. During her time in the Victorian Government, Julia delivered communications for business and industry through the state’s pandemic response and led cross-platform campaigns for the portfolios of employment, digital economy and small business.
Julia previously held senior roles in digital, communications and marketing teams at La Trobe University and Swinburne, where she was involved in reputation enhancing initiatives including recruitment campaigns, research-led international engagement and partnerships to advance education and research.
She started her career as a journalist in Australia’s public media sector. As a journalist at the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Julia pursued her passion for global engagement, producing innovative digital channels for Asia and the Pacific and contributing to the development and implementation of new editorial policy and practice at the ABC relating to web and social media.
Julia is industry recognised with Universities Australia awards for communications and an AIMIA Award for inclusion. She is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and holds a Masters in Political Science from the University of Melbourne.
Outside of work, you’ll find Julia with her family, on a dance floor, breathing in nature, cheering for her Australian Football team (Collingwood) or reading a good book.
