University academics named Fellows of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia

University of Melbourne academics have been named as new Fellows of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia.

These academics join more than 700 Fellows of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, established in 1971 to recognise and champion excellence in the social sciences and provide evidence-based advice on a range of social policy issues.

The new Fellows include:

  • Professor Chris Edmond FASSA, from the Faculty of Business and Economics;
  • Professor Nisvan Erkal FASSA, from the Faculty of Business and Economics;
  • Professor Sean Scalmer FASSA, from the Faculty of Arts;
  • Professor Michael Berk FASSA, honorary professorial research fellow from the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, the Florey Institute for Neuroscience and Mental Health and Orygen Youth Health.

The social sciences consider the functioning and structure of society and include the disciplines of anthropology, demography, geography, linguistics, sociology, management, accounting, economics and economic history, marketing, statistics, history, law, philosophy, political science, education, psychology, and health sciences.
