New University of Melbourne Fellows of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering

The University's academics join almost nine hundred Fellows of one of Australia’s four learned Academies.

University of Melbourne academics have been named among the new Fellows of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE).

The Fellows, elected by their peers and representing a broad range of expertise across engineering, applied science and technology, include:

  • Professor Richard Eckard FTSE, from the Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Science. Professor Eckard is a world authority on sustainable agricultural production, and developed the first greenhouse gas accounting tools for agriculture.
  • Distinguished Professor Ivan Marusic FTSE FAA from the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology. Professor Marusic is an eminent researcher on fluid mechanics, noted for his breakthrough discovery of ‘superstructures’ in wall-bounded turbulence.
  • Professor Hugh Williams FTSE from the Melbourne Business School. Professor Williams is one of the inventors of Infinite Scroll and a leader of Google Maps’ product and engineering teams. Professor Williams has also held executive positions at eBay and Microsoft.
  • Associate Professor Andrew Nash FTSE from the Bio21 Molecular Science and Biotechnology Institute. Associate Professor Nash is a global leader in biopharmaceuticals. He is CSL’s Chief Scientific Officer and Senior Vice President, Head of Research.

Distinguished Professor Marcia Langton AO FTSE FASSA from the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences was also named an Honorary Fellow. Professor Langton is an anthropologist, geographer and public intellectual, recognised internationally for her ground-breaking work to modernise the mining industry’s engagement with Indigenous people around negotiating and settling agreements.
