The Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences is delighted to announce that Professor Gustavo Duque has assumed the position of President-Elect of the Australia and New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society (ANZBMS).

Internationally revered for his research into ageing and musculoskeletal science, Professor Duque is currently the Chair of Medicine at Western Health and Director of the Australian Institute for Musculoskeletal Science (AIMSS).

The ANZBMS is a highly esteemed organisation in the musculoskeletal field in Australia and New Zealand and is recognised worldwide for its research. The Society brings together clinical and experimental scientists and physicians actively involved in the study of bone and mineral metabolism.

“This will be a great opportunity to increase the impact and presence of AIMSS in the Society and facilitate new networks”, Professor Duque said.

Professor Duque’s research interests are focused on the mechanisms and treatment of osteoporosis, sarcopenia and frailty in older persons.

In 2013, the ANZBMS awarded Professor Duque with the prestigious Professor Philip Sambrook Award for his leadership in bone research.
