Three University of Melbourne alumni have been announced as part of the first cohort of 100 Quad Fellows.

The Quad Fellowship, a joint initiative of the governments of Australia, India, Japan and the United States, sponsors 25 exceptional masters and doctoral science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) students from each Quad country to study in the United States.

This first-of-its-kind scholarship is designed to inspire interdisciplinary scientific and technological innovation while connecting and empowering the next generation of STEM leaders.

The Quad Fellowship offers a unique combination of financial benefits, cross-cultural exchange, networking and content programming. Each Quad Fellow will receive a one-time award of $US50,000 which can be used for tuition, research, fees, books, room and board, and related academic expenses, such as registration fees, research-related travel.

The University of Melbourne-affiliated Fellows are:

  • Leon Di Stefano, who completed a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science (Mathematics and Statistics)
  • MohammadSaleh Naghdi, who completed a Bachelor of Science and Diploma in Computing
  • Yifan Guo, who completed a Bachelor of Science and Diploma in Computing
