The University of Melbourne has signed a Research Partnership Memorandum of Understanding with the French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment (INRAE).

The agreement was signed by Philippe Mauguin, CEO of INRAE at a signing ceremony at the French Embassy in Canberra on Tuesday March 28. Dr Surinder Singh Chauhan from the Faculty of Science attended the ceremony on behalf of the University of Melbourne.

The agreement outlines a joint aspiration to:

  • Launch a Joint Linkage Call to foster the development of new collaborations through joint research workshops;
  • Support the development of International Associated Laboratories that bring together research teams to undertake longer term joint research projects; and
  • Explore the development of joint PhD programs and research training opportunities to support established and developing collaborations.

INRAE is one of the world’s leading institutions for research on agriculture, food and the environment, supporting the emergence of sustainable agricultural and food production systems.

The University and INRAE have several existing and long-standing collaborations that may benefit from opportunities arising from the MoU, including research into animal nutrition, production and meat science, yeast and fermentation, climate change, and parasites.

As well as enabling new and growing existing linkages with INRAE, the partnership will also support researchers to grow their connections with shared partners, including major research universities in France.
