The University of Melbourne and India's University of Madras have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which will build on existing programs and enhance research collaborations between the two institutions.

This MoU follows an announcement earlier this year of the University of Melbourne’s Bachelor of Science (Blended) degree being offered at the University of Madras from September 2022.

The MoU enables the two universities to continue collaborations and investigate how students and researchers can further benefit from possible joint PhD opportunities, knowledge sharing for early to mid-level researchers, mobility options, workshops, study visits and staff exchanges.

Together, both universities aim to initiate strong and sustainable Transnational Education (TNE) and Transnational Research (TNR) programs. It will also pave the way for further joint teaching initiatives, including blended and dual-degree programs in science, humanities, arts and social sciences at undergraduate and graduate level.

University of Melbourne Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) Professor Michael Wesley, in the region as part of a University of Melbourne delegation, signed the agreement with University of Madras Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr S. Gowri.

Professor Wesley said the partnership between the universities was a significant one.

“Our joint expertise enables students and faculty from both institutions to collaborate, learn from each other, and initiate research that has global relevance and critical impact,” he said.
